Lyudmila Dolmatova, the mother of opposition activist Alexander Dolmatov who committed suicide in the Netherlands’ deportation centre on January 17, has appealed to the queen of the country for a full investigation into the case.
According to Alexander Averin, from the Other Russia party, where Dolmatov was a member, his mother has requested the queen to look into the cause of his suicide because he might have been forced to commit it.
Alexander Dolmatov fled Russia after his flat was searched in connection with the criminal case launched after clashes with police during the opposition rally on Bolotnaya Square on May 6. 2012.
He moved to the Netherlands and requested asylum, which was denied.
According to his Dutch lawyer quoted by the lenta.ru news agency, Dolmatov was out of reach for some time so the lawyer had to file an appeal on his own.
The police arrested Dolmatov and put his into the deportation centre by mistake, he added. It was legal for the activist to stay for several more months in the Netherlands awaiting the decision by the appeals court. But obviously, the lawyer says, neither he nor the police were aware that the appeal had been filed.
