Russian punk band Pussy Riot has been nominated for the British NME musical magazine awards.
In the nomination "Hero of the Year” Pussy Riot competes with, among others, the legendary singer David Bowie and U.S. President Barack Obama. The award is also claimed by the British cyclist Bradley Wiggins who won the "Tour de France”, the R&B-singer Frank Ocean and the rock musician Dave Grohl.
The performance of Pussy Riot in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow for which members of the band, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina, are serving their prison sentence is presented in the nomination "Musical Moment of the Year". This status is also claimed by the opening of the ceremony of the Olympic Games in London, the return of Bowie, Rolling Stones concert at the O2 Arena in London, the performance of The Stone Roses at Heaton Park in Manchester and the unexpected participation of Green Day in the music festival in Reading.
