The election of the President of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) will be held on 29 May this year on the General Assembly of RAS, the Chief Scientific Secretary of the Presidium of RAS Valery Kostyuk said.

The election of the Presidium of RAS will be held on June 1, he added. The current President of RAS is the Academician Yuriy Osipov. He is the permanent head of RAS since 17 December 1991. Previous elections of RAS President were held in 2008.

The right to nominate the candidates for the post of the President of RAS is given to the division office of RAS, the presidiums of regional divisions of RAS and St. Petersburg Scientific Center of RAS.
