Well-known Butyrsky Prison May Become Museum

Soon the Public Chamber will request a list of famous people imprisoned in Butyrka, and will petition for creation of a museum.

Voroshilov, Dzerzhinsky, Mayakovsky, Korolyov, Solzhenitsyn and many others served their terms in Butyrsky Prison. Meanwhile, a museum has been working at the prison complex for more than 40 years. It is not so easy to get there — it is necessary to make an official demand from a legal entity. Besides, it is so far impossible to visit those places which will, probably, most of all interest modern visitors. (For example, the cells in which Sergey Magnitsky or Vladimir Gusinsky were kept).

Before creating a museum from Butyrka a new prison will have to be constructed to move prisoners there.

Whereas they suggest make a museum out of an operating prison in Moscow, one can see an opposite situation in St. Petersburg. Experts will restore the Aurora cruiser. Such an assignment was recently given by Minister of Defence Sergey Shoygu.
