Billionaire Alexander Lebedev plans to set up a united newsroom for the British newspapers he owns, The Evening Standard and The Independent.

According to the Drum website, the updated studio is crucial for the mogul’s new project, London Live. The TV channel has obtained a broadcasting licence of the British media regulator, Ofcom, and will be free of charge. It will cover some 4 million households and will be launched by September 2013.

The merger of newsrooms is expected to result in redundancies. So far, about 20 people are rumoured to be leaving soon.
