Solzhenitsyn Centre Will Be The Tourism Brand Of Gus-Khrustalny

The Memorial Centre of Alexander Solzhenitsyn on the Mescherskaya land will be not only the first museum in the world dedicated to the writer, but will also help to attract the tourists to Gus-Khrustalny, those who care about the cultural heritage of Russia, as the mayor of the town Yuri Grishkin said.

In his speech at the presentation of the new book "Gus-Khrustalny remembers Solzhenitsyn" dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the publication of the short story "Matryona`s Home" and to the 95th anniversary of Alexander Solzhenitsyn the mayor said that the district town of Vladimir Region is ready for the creation of this centre not only morally, politically, culturally, but also economically.

Solzhenitsyn arrived in Vladimir region in 1956, immediately after the camps and exile. A simple semi-literate peasant Matyrona Zakharova living in Mezinovsky village gave the shelter to the future writer. Exactly these places where he lived for almost a year working as a school mathematics teacher inspired Solzhenitsyn to write the famous short story "Matryona`s Home" which was listed among the works that later brought the Nobel Prize to the writer.
