Russia’s Sports Ministry needs RUR 135 billion to revive Russia’s status as an athletic superpower.

According to Izvestia, the ministry is looking for RUR 30 billion as early as 2013.

The Russian daily which got hold of the draft programme says the officials’ bid relies on the promise to win the 2013 Universiade in Kazan, 2014 Sochi Olympics, and stay in top 3 during the next games.

The same amount would be earmarked for the development of sports outside the top-level arena.
