250 Russians were charged with bribery for sums more than 10,000 roubles, or $300, in 2012.
In an interview with the Rossiya-1 TV channel, Chairman of Russia’s Supreme Court Vyacheslav Lebedev said that teachers and doctors accounted for 22 percent of the total number of people convicted for graft.
60 percent out of 1,300 people facing bribery charges were punished for sums lower than 5,000 roubles, he said.
P.S. Russians often complain that people stealing 5,000 roubles are sent to prison for several years while those snatching billions of dollars of taxpayers’ money from the budget most often walk free or never get indicted at all.
