The authorities in the Russian city of Chelyabinsk are going to erect a monument to commemorate the meteorite that hit the Urals region on February 15.
The fall of the meteorite in the Chelyabinsk region has become a global event not only for local residents and other Russians, but for the whole world. That is why the authorities and proactive citizens plan to immortalize this interplanetary visit by erected a monument.
A special competition will be held to choose the best design proposal for the monument and also a logo for meteorite souvenirs. The inauguration ceremony of the monument is expected to take place on February 15, 2014, at the first anniversary of this event. The place for the future monument is still unknown.
The meteorite streaked across the sky and slammed into central Russia on February 15 with a massive boom that blew out windows and damaged thousands of buildings around Chelyabinsk, injuring more than 1,500 people in the area.
