"Russian Railways" JSC stopped to charge insurance fee on the sale of travel documents on January 24, 2013. The obligatory private passenger insurance was canceled according to the presidential decree from January 19, 2013.

Under the new rules, the transport operator insures its liability for damage to life, health and property of passengers. The decree also sets maximum limits for insurance claims in case of accident. Thus, on the occurrence of loss under the civil liability the insurance company pays the compensation of 2 to 25 million rubles. In order to claim compensation the aggrieved person must send a written notice to the transport operator concerning the payment of compensation composed in any form and the required documents. The term of compensation will not exceed 30 calendar days from the date of the receipt of the documents by the insurer.
