Stephen Fry Arrived in St. Petersburg for Making Film about Burdens of Russian Gays
Stephen Fry

The well-known British actor, writer and humorist Stephen Fry has arrived in St. Petersburg for shootings of a feature film about LGBT-community problems in Russia.

In his Twitter the actor mentioned: “Off to St Petersburg tomorrow for some filming. Something tells me that warm clothing will be required...”. He is also known as one of the world’s best-known gays to speak out in defense of minorities of Petersburg.

Upon his arrival in St. Petersburg the British actor wrote that he was very happy with the Russian reception at the airport and would like to stay in the city longer to have a rest.

It is a reminder that Stephen Fry pleaded on behalf of sexual minorities of Petersburg after adoption of the law prohibiting advocacy of homosexuality.

He is also well-known for his reaction to the arrest of Pussy Riot - he gave a witty answer to one Russian citizen, who wanted to know how many Russian words Stephen knew and whether he could judge about something he did not know. It became clear that Stephen Fry knows the words “freedom and justice” in Russian.
