The Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev signed the decree on awarding the prizes of the Russian Government in 2012 in the field of science and technology. The corresponding decree establishes 40 annual awards in the field of science and technology, including 10 awards for the works in the field of defense and security.

For the secret works a separate government decree is issued. The awards in the field of science and technology in 2012, as well as the titles of the laureate of the Russian Government in the field of science and technology will be taken by 291 people, including 18 academicians and 13 corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Russian Academy of Medical Sciences and the Russian Academy of Architecture and Building Sciences, 1 corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, 89 Doctors of Sciences and 94 Candidates of Sciences. Among the authors of the works are the representatives of 24 regions of the Russian Federation. Four Ukrainian citizens also became laureates.
