80-Year-Old Alexander Mitta Making Movie about Marc Chagall
Alexander Mitta

Today the magnificent film director Alexander Mitta turns 80 years old.

Presently Alexander Mitta is absorbed in work on the new movie about the Vitebsk period of life of Marc Chagall, whose role will be played by Leonid Bichevin (Freight 200, and Morphine), his friendship with Kazimir Malevich, who will be played by Anatoly Bely (Subway), and about the artists’ friendship turning into hostility.

Alexander Mitta explains: “Chagall-Malevich” are two opposite figures both in terms of humanity and regarding attitude to their students. The plot is rich in sharp turns. Chagall takes care of his students, just like Mikhail Romm once cared for us, his students. Malevich treats them like soldiers, who have to punch the ideas of abstract art. He perfectly understood, who he was, whereas Chagall was an intellectual”.
