Well-known curator Marat Guelman plans to create a museum on the basis of the Icons exhibition.
According to Marat Guelman, he is already negotiating about founding the museum “on a different level”, however, it has not been specified, who is interested in this idea. If the museum appears, it will definitely be opened outside of Moscow. The curator does not rule out the possibility for the museum, which will include event 8-year-old works, to appear in St. Petersburg.
The exhibition exploring the icon as an art masterpiece has been opened in the Petersburg exhibition center Tkachi. Mr. Guelman expects up to five thousand people to visit the show in the first week. The exhibition will run till April 21.
In 2013 the exhibition was opposed by Orthodox Christian activists, who wrote a letter labeling Marat Guelman as a figure of pseudo-culture.
In 2012 Guelman’s exhibition already took place in Krasnodar, where it stirred up a range of protests by believers, and then in Perm. The exhibition presents works by Dmitry Gutov, Gor Chakhal, Anatoly Osmolovsky, Dmitry Vrubel, and many others.
Earlier Marat Guelman reported that the exhibition in Petersburg would also present Damien Hirst's work.
