Pig DNA has been found in sausages and ham produced at a halal meat processing plant in Moscow. Experts find it significant to say that it does not necessarily mean that the products actually contain pork. It may be a result of contact with raw meat consisting of pork or pork products, which is also prohibited by the Muslim religion.
Questionable halal products of Moscow’s Tsaritsyno meat processing plant will be examined in independent laboratories in Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Moscow’s Tsaritsyno meat processing plant denies any use of pork in its halal products and says that any contact of the halal production with pig DNA is impossible, as it is completely separable from other plant processes . The company has been supplying halal meat products to the Russia Muftis Council’s International Center for Halal Standardization and Certification since 2007.
