17th Century Architecture Monument Collapsing in the Arkhangelsk Region

An architecture monument, which is a cultural heritage site of federal value, is collapsing in the Krasnoborsk District of the Arkhangelsk Region.

A public prosecutor's check-up revealed that in the Permogorskoye municipality there is a ruining architecture monument – St. George Church built in 1665, and local authorities pay no heed to it. At the same time, the architecture monument is one of the most remarkable paragons of wooden architecture of the Russian North.

The prosecutor of the district has sent a notice of claim to October district court of Arkhangelsk about duty assignment on the Ministry of Culture of the Arkhangelsk Region to develop a project for the monument protection zone.

The court decision has met the prosecutor’s demands and thus the Ministry is obliged to remedy the violations of law till April 1, 2014.
