On Tuesday, April 9, Russian Communist Party called the government to admit its mistakes in the education sector and dismiss Education Minister Dmitry Livanov.
Party leader Gennady Zyuganov said the minister’s “destructive decisions” did a great harm to the Russian education. Zyuganov is sure that Livanov "has already become become an object of derision among young people – schoolchildren, undergraduates and postgraduates, and also teachers."
He reminds that Livenov is currently considered to be the most unpopular minister in the Russian Government.
Zyuganov slammed the ministry’s education program as “antinational,” referring in particular to Livanov’s remarks that the number of students receiving state scholarships should be slashed and to his support for a plan to establish federal educational standards for high schools, which the Communist Party says could destroy the general education system in Russia.
Another object of criticism is Livanov's recent words about members of Russian Academy of Sciences and their uneffective work, which caused a tide of discontent among scientific circles.
