On Saturday, April 13, dozens of people were detained by the Moscow police when trying to hold an unauthorized "Day of Rage" nationalist rally.
Nationalist marches were planned in over 20 cities across Russia on Saturday to protest the stabbing of two ethnic Russian football fans in the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don during a clash with men said to be from Russia’s North Caucasus region.
In Moscow about 200 nationalists gathered in the center of the city, at the Pushkin Square, chanting nationalist slogans. Then they splitted into two groups and tried to march towards the Manezhnaya Square near the Kremlin, but were stopped by the police.
In an unrelated protest also held on Saturday, police detained seven protesters on Red Square at an unsanctioned demonstration against the prosecution of people suspected of involvement in unrest at a May 2012 rally against President Vladimir Putin.
All detained protestors from both rallies were released the same day from police stations. About 20 of them will face an administrative penalty.
