Battery Monument Unveiled in Ryazan

In this way ecologists have decided to pay attention to the problem of utilization of used batteries.

The creative event was held in the downtown. Residents of Ryazan were told in what way such household waste is dangerous. They were explained why it must not be discarded together with usual household garbage. For example, only one used battery can pollute 20 square meters of land.

Concrete measures for solving the problems of garbage utilization in the Ryazan Region were also suggested. Activists of eco-movement collected signatures for construction of a plant for recycling waste, including batteries. The non-standard action drew attention of many inhabitants and left nobody indifferent.

Natalia Perekhodova, the organizer of the Farewell, Battery! Project informed told that the action had been started last November. Back then they collected more than 36 thousand batteries just within a week. 45 schools of Ryazan, a radio engineering university and other educational institutions took part in the action. The following stage of the action starts next week and will last for a week. The batteries collected around the city turned to be sufficient for making an entire monument.
