Pergamum Altar, or Zeus Altar is an outstanding work of monumental plastic art and architecture of the Hellenistic period, one of the most considerable monuments of that epoch that have come down to us.
It was named after the place of its creation – Pergamum, the capital of the Pergamum kingdom and one of the largest cities of Asia Minor. Presently the moment marble friezes of the altar are exhibited in Berlin Pergamonmuseum, constructed specially for this purpose.
Having been inspired by the monumentalism and dramatic nature of the Pergamum altar frieze, the artist and actor Andrey Alexander carried out a multidimensional art reconstruction of this unique monument of the antiquity epoch.
Andrey Alexander’s project presented in the Hall 24 of the Main Building of the Pushkin Fine Arts Museum is an original virtual reconstruction of the Pergamum Altar on a canvass, including those sculptural fragments which have not remained.
The exhibition will be opened in the Pushkin Museum on April 22 and will run till July 21.
