On Tuesday, police in southwest Russia detained the man suspected of shooting six people dead in the city of Belgorod.
According to the Interior Ministry's press service, the suspect, 31-year-old Sergei Pomazun, was arrested during the attempt to flee the cordoned-off area on a cargo train. Pomazun was detained by four police officers who were patrolling the area adjacent to the Belgorod railway station. He resisted arrest and even injured one of the officers with knife.
A spokeswoman for the region’s Investigative Committee department, Yelena Kozyreva, said Pomazun “has already started to give testimony.” He will also undergo psychiatric examination soon.
On Monday afternoon, April 22, Pomazun opened fire at random victims with a rifle in a hunting store before moving onto the streets in the center of Belgorod and continuing the shooting spree. Six people were killed, including two under-age girls. Belgorod officials have announced two days of mourning.
