A regional center of prevention and fight against AIDS and communicable diseases, the construction of which started in the 1994, was opened in Irkutsk.

The object financing was made from the federal and regional budget within the scope of the Federal special-purpose program "Prevention and fight against socially-significant diseases". The object cost is 380 million roubles, and about 210 million were spent to acquire technological and medical equipment. According to the chief physician this center is equipped with automatized laboratory complexes that allow to reduce the time of patients’ examination, to exclude the human factor and possibility to make errors during the diagnostic process.
