Buryatia: Forbidden To Enter the Xiongnu Ancient Settlement
(Source: http://chita.rgo.ru)

The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Buryatia stands for «preservation» of the Xiongnu ancient settlement. The unique archeological complex in this settlement is closed for the scientists during a long time. The results of the excavations that took place in the 50-s proved that the settlement is a large military, commercial, artisanal, and economic center of the Xiongnu empire. This land still have many secrets, but at present the excavations are not held.

According to Timur Tsibikov, the Minister of culture of Republic of Buryatia, nowadays there is no need to make excavations. He considers that it is possible only to build some museums, but it will require much money. The Minister stands for introducing strict limitations of any other works on the territory of the monument in order to prevent any harm, and people also shouldn’t approach the settlement.
