Builders have completed demolition of a 19th century architecture monument at the address 7, Gogol Street in Yekaterinburg.
Neither social activists on duty, nor a police squad, which arrived at the mishap site, and not even the governor of the Sverdlovsk Region managed to stop the ravages.
The press service of the regional government reported that attempts of demolishing the monument - a 19th century house with elements of Russian baroque in its decor - had been made before. There were attempts to change its address from 7, Gogol Street to 9, Gogol Street and rename the object. This process was stopped in July, 2012, when the government of the region signed a resolution about restoring the initial address and name of the monument.
Social activists hope that in spite of the fact that the building has now been ruined, they will manage to hold the destroyers liable and force builders to reconstruct the monument.
