An average Russian family spends 108,800 roubles, or $3,600, a year on FMCG items, according to research firm GfK Rus.
Expenses grow only at a level commensurate with inflation, and last year’s growth in the food categories amounted to just 8.7 percent.
Consumer behaviour is seeing drastic changes, with the number of visits dropping 4.8 percent, which has driven the revenue growth for hypermarkets. Russian consumers buy less frequent but the average ticket size has grown.
