Russian Health Ministry is deeply concerned about the growing percentage of obese citizens. Part of the problem is attributed to the abnormally high level of consumption of mayonnaise - Russian favourite sauce to go with food.

The ministers were particularly alarmed at the fact that 30 per cent of parents fed mayonnaise and ketchup to their children. Globally, Russia is the leader in mayonnaise production per person, while the domestic market is saturated with all sorts of mayonnaise sauces from both the nation-wide and local producers.

The change in  Russian eating habits has also been observed, with more people opting for high-calorie sweet and salty dishers instead of vegetables, fish, and fruits. According to the Ministry's data, 25-30 per cent of Russian population have extra body fat. Overall, more than 1/3 of all able people in Russia are overweight.

While the measures will undoubtedly be undertaken, at the moment Gennady Onischenko who gained notoriety with the Russian mass media for his sharp-tongued, sarcastis remarks appealed to Russian men to stop engaging in such "non-Olympic kind of sport" as "throwing doughnuts in a man's digestive tract in the lying-in-front-the-telly position".

In other words, he wants Russian men to stop mixing overeating with passive leisure.
