Russian film director and screenwriter Pyotr Todorovsky died on May 24 in Moscow, on the 88th year of his life.
Todorovsky has been suffered from an ischaemic heart disease for a long time. At the beginning of April 2013 he was struck by a heart attack and then put to one of Moscow hospitals.
As a classic of Russian film industry Pyotr Todorovsky has made over 20 movies, the most well-known of them are Urban Romance (1970), Wartime Romance (1983), Intergirl (1989), Encore, Once More Encore! (1992), What a Wonderful Game (1995), Mechanic Gavrilov's Beloved Woman (1981) and others.
Todorovsky also wrote about 15 scripts for movies, including "Encore, Once More Encore!" and "Urban Romance". He also worked as a cameraman in "Spring on Zarechnaya Street" (1956), "Two Fyodors" (1958) and "Never" (1962).
Todorovsky was named a People's Artist of Russia in 1985. Encore, Once More, Encore! won the 1992 Nika Award for Best Film. Wartime Romance (1983) was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. It was also entered into the 34th Berlin International Film Festival, where Inna Churikova won the Silver Bear for Best Actress. In 2005 Pyotr Todorovsky received the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, II class.
