The lineal descendant of Alexander Pushkin and his spouse Maria Pushkina living in Belgium have expressed bewilderment about plans of shifting a monument to the great Russian poet.
According to the Pushkins, the mentioned initiative cannot be an act of restoration of historical justice. In their opinion, the happenings look more like futile bustle.
The Pushkins point out that the monument to the poet has been standing on this place for over 60 years already. Yes, before the monument it was a place for a belltower with gateway church of the Holy Monastery, which was demolished.
Another proof showing that the monument to the great ancestor is on its right place is that it is the belief of several generations of Russians, whose warm personal memoirs are associated with the Pushkin Square, the Pushkins couple emphasizes.
It is a reminder that Alexander Pushkin is the last lineal descendant of the poet Alexander Pushkin, and his spouse Maria is a descendant of the poet through female lineage.
