The 100 Works by Alexandre Benois exhibition dedicated to one of the founders of the well-known creative association Art World has been opened in the Nashi Khudozhniki Gallery (Kournikova Gallery).
In spite of the fact that Alexandre Benois’ drawings are indispensable participants of all Russia’s largest auctions, the last and the only -large-scale exhibition of the artist was held 40 years ago in the Tretyakov Gallery. Organizers of the forthcoming exhibition tried to collect the artist’s iconographic works, for example, paintings from the Last Walks of Louis XIV series, two works for Knebel's edition Pictures on Russian History, sketches for five letters from Alphabet in Pictures by Alexandre Benois, as well as illustrations to Alexander Pushkin’s Bronze Horseman. The exposition includes sketches for Diaghilev’s performances Pavilion of Armida, Parsley, Nightingale, as well as rural landscapes and views of St. Petersburg, Crimea, Germany, France, and Italy. Many of them are displayed for the first time, since they were created in emigration and make up the picturesque chronicle of the family life, newsru.com reports.
The exhibition runs till July 21.
