National Best-Seller Literary Award Goes to Figl-Migl

The writer under the strange penname Figl-Migl has become the winner of the National Best-Seller award.

It was announced at the award ceremony, which took place in St. Petersburg. Only at the ceremony it became known, that this elaborate pseudonym is hiding a writer, whose real name has remained a secret.

Figl-Migl and Maxim Kantor gained equal number of scores. However, the choice for the novel Wolves and Bears was made by the jury chairman, the general director of 2õ2 TV channel Lev Makarov.

Figl-Migl already was in the award shortlist before, in 2011. The author’s previous novel You Love These Movies So Much was no success.

This year among the National Best-Seller finalists there are Maxim Kantor with Red Light, Evgeny Vodolazkin with Laurels, Ildar Abuzyarov with Mutabor, Sofia Kupryashina with Vidoiskatelnitsa, Olga Pogodina-Kuzmina with Power of the Dead.

The announcement of the short list coincided with news about loss of the sponsor. Then it became known that National Bestseller has found new sponsors: the Central Partnership film company and 2õ2 TV channel.

Among the award winners of previous years there were Leonid Yuzefovich, Dmitry Bykov, and Alexander Terekhov.
