Gustav Klutsis Exhibition Opened in Moscow

The State Tretyakov Gallery on Krymsky Val has opened the exhibition Gustav Klutsis. Right to Experiment.

Gustav Gustavovich Klutsis (1895–1938) was a bright and tragic figure of the Russian avant-garde art. The leader of the constructivism, one of the founders of photomontage art, a master of the political poster, an innovator in the field of exhibition design, he sincerely believed in ideas of transformation of the world and transformation of the person, and focused all his talent on creation of powerful instruments of political propaganda. However owing to paradoxes of Russian history of the 20th century the artist was destroyed by that very system, for the promotion of which he had worked, and his creativity was buried in oblivion for decades.

Many of the works represented at the exposition have been regularly displayed in recent years abroad, but for the first time they are being shown in Russia.

The exhibition runs till September 22.
