Rosneft and ExxonMobil sign two key agreements as both major oil giants are pushing for Arctic offshore development.

According to the documents officially signed in Washington, the Russian and US companies are establishing a joint Arctic Research Center in Russia and will broadly share unique technology.

The ARC will primarily focus on the Kara Sea, says Rosneft’s official press release

“Technology and expertise have been the cornerstones of ExxonMobil’s success in the Arctic for the past 90 years,” Rosneft’s website quotes Sara N. Ortwein, president of ExxonMobil Upstream Research Company. “The Arctic Research Center and our technology sharing agreement provide new opportunities to combine our knowledge and expertise with the talented people at Rosneft to meet the next set of challenges in the Arctic and deepwater.”
