The government has dismissed rumours of plans to devalue the national currency.
The Finance Ministry will buy up foreign currency in August, but the goal is to curb a steep strengthening of the rouble, said first deputy prime minister Igor Shuvalov.
Rumours of imminent crises, collapses and devaluations are typical of the Russian society, part of the negative legacy of the turbulent 1990s.
