Gazprom is reviving plans to build a LNG plant in the north-west of Russia to offer an alternative to the shale gas supplies from the US, says Vedomosti daily.
At the moment Gazprom is looking for a location that would be close to its Nord Stream pipeline and have easy access to the Baltic Sea.
One of the potential customers is the UK, say experts cited by Vedomosti.
Gazprom has been quiet about the project first announced in 2004, and one of the reasons is growing competition from other domestic producers like Novatek that have been seeking to break Gazprom's monopoly on natural gas exports.
