Foreign online stores may soon lose their competitive advantage, as the industry is getting under increasing scrutiny from the Russian authorities.

The Federal Customs Service is expected to step in to allay concerns of the Russian players.

Both say that foreign online outlets have a unique position because they don't pay the income tax or VAT, only the imports duty, if the parcel is worth more than €1,000.

The Customs Service has also promised to work out customer-friendly steps to ease the order and delivery procedures.
