Portraits of Grandees Exhibited in Moscow

The State History Museum opens the PORTRAIT exhibition with portraits of tsars and noblemen, items of furniture and interior from the museum collection.

It was the traditional mission of one of the smart rooms of the imperial palace or the noble estate to display the PORTRAIT Gallery, this memorial space dedicated to the history of the dynasty and memory of ancestors’ valor.  Patrimonial portrait collections from the estates, which fell to decay in the late 19th century, became the source of museum collections.

The exhibition presents ceremonial portraits. The PORTRAIT Gallery is displayed in one of the halls on the 1st floor of the History Museum and will run till March 30, 2014.
