Russian billionaire-turned-politician Mikhail Prokhorov’s Civic Platform political party will not field a candidate for governor of the Moscow Region.
Prokhorov reportedly did not give a reason for his party's decision to not contend for the Moscow region's governorship. Earlier he said his party had three candidates that could run in the September 8 election, though he didn't reveal their names.
In June Prokhorov said that his party would also not field a candidate for mayor of Russia’s capital city, adding that his faction would instead focus on seats in the local municipal legislature, the Moscow City Duma. Elections to the Duma are expected to take place in autumn 2014. "We (members of the party) decided: Moscow mayor elections - yours, Moscow City Duma elections - ours. We definitely won't miss them", Prokhorov added.
