From Guercino to Caravaggio Exhibition in St. Petersburg

The Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg opens the exhibition From Guercino to Caravaggio. Sir Denis Meon and Italian Art of the 17th century.

      Sir Denis Meon was a respectable English collector, who found out at the age of 96 that the painting purchased by him at Sotheby's auction at below cost price had been created by Caravaggio. So its cost must be not $100 000 but $100 000 000. However, this was not the only detective outcome story with Sir Meon.

      The exhibition of the Italian art of the 17th century will show how his adventures after the sensational auction infolded. The exposition opens up with canvasses by Guercino.
