A Monument To Dagestani Poet Unveiled In Moscow

Rasul Gamzatov's monument unveiling ceremony took place at Yauzsky Boulevard in Moscow.


      

The ceremony is a threshold of poet’s 90-th anniversary, celebrated in September. The Rasul Gamzatov International Public Foundation initiated erection of the monument.


      

Rasul Gamzatov, a popular poet of Dagestan, won Lenin, USSR and RSFSR Prizes. In 1951 he was elected as the chairman of Dagestan Writers' Union administration and carried out this duty up to his decease in November of 2003. The day poet was celebrating his 80-th anniversary in September 2003, and got the highest national award - Order of St. Andrew.
