Saint-Petersburg can apply for hosting 2024 Summer Olympics. Shamil Tarpishchev, the member of International Olympic Committee, declared that Russia has to compete for carrying out Summer Olympic Games in 2024. In 2015 IOC will accept bids of candidate cities.

It is likely that Vienna, Dubai, New York and one of German cities are planning on bidding for the 2024 Olympics. Besides these, the cities which failed to win the bid for 2020 – Baku, Doha, Madrid, Rome, Istanbul and Tokyo – will be also going for 2024 Olympics.

Saint Petersburg can bid to host the 2024 Summer Olympics as well. Olympic Games in Saint Petersburg can be the 5-th large sports project in the near future after Universiade, Sochi Olympics, World Aquatics Championships and FIFA World Cup. According to the evaluations of Alexander Trifonov, an independent economic expert, Russia will not bear another big sporting event, taking into account that last Olympic Games profits didn’t allow covering the expenditures.
