Zurab Tsereteli Ñreates Europe’s Highest Statue of Christ

The president of the Russian Academy of Arts, sculptor Zurab Tsereteli has cast in bronze Jesus Christ’s statue, which proves to be the highest one in Europe.

The statue is 33 meters tall, and its pedestal with bronze reliefs adds 50 meters more to it. Thus, the overall monument height makes 83 meters. The statue of Christ has been cast at the Monumentsculpture Plant in Petersburg.

So far the final place for setting up the monument has not been selected. Zurab Tsereteli has been suggested putting up the Christ statue on one of the mountains in Georgia; however the sculptor is sure that a proper place will be found for it in Russia.

Zurab Tsereteli compares his creation to the statue of Christ Redeemer with open hands in Rio de Janeiro. According to the head of the Arts Academy, his statue of Christ has hands in a different position. This is Christ Teacher, - the author emphasizes.
