A mobile application allows finding out how did the city look like in the past.

Novosibirsk residents and city visitors have an opportunity to know better the history of city. With the assistance of Historypin mobile application for smartphones they can check out the historic look of a certain building or district even if it doesn’t exist anymore.

Historical and cultural project “Virtual History” was developed by Novosibirsk Museum and MTS Company. Mobile phone, smartphone and tablet users have to install Historypin application through Google Play or iTunes Store; to turn on GPS/GLONASS and to run the application outdoors; to find in contest menu Explore Location option; to choose an icon on the map and to point camera towards object. Then the modern city buildings will appear covered with archival, mostly pre-revolution or 20-30-s look. There are historical references attached to each object, also available on display.
