New Names On Kamchatka Map

Two anonymous geographical objects in Kamchatka have got their names.


      

The mountain range in southern part of East Ridge was named in memory of the pilot V. P. Samarsky. The helicopter crew commander, V. P. Samarsky dedicated his life to the establishment and development of local aviation. In the course of sanitary and rescue flights he saved lives of more than 300 persons.


      

The summit of Zhupanov Ridge now bears the name of  “Kovalenkov Peak”. Anatoly Georgievich Kovalenkov was the founder of local trade in Koryakia, initiator of wildlife animal protection measures and one of the founders of tourist industry of the Kamchatka Peninsula.
