The monument was unveiled on July 31 marking the 125th anniversary since the birth of the scientist Vladimir Zworykin.
Though “the father of television”, as Zworykin is called, made all of his 120 discoveries and inventions in America, he is still considered to be a Russian scientist. Moreover, dwellers of Murom are proud of such a fellow countryman: Vladimir Zworykin was born and grew up in Murom.
Another monument to him has recently appeared in Moscow: the inventor depicted as leaning on his brainchild TV-set is located next to the Ostankino television center. The Murom version of the monument is more “homelike”. It conveys the time when Vladimir just graduated. The polytechnic student is sitting on a bench, holding an opened book in his hand.
The monument has been set up by the scientist’s house (4, Pervomayskaya Street), which has been presently closed for reconstruction.
