Kamchatka Residents Choosing Symbol Plant

Voting for the plant symbol of the region is carried out on official website of executive authorities of the Kamchatka region. In three weeks, 70% of voters cast their ballots for Erman’s birch. 25% of respondents chose Kamchatka Trillium and 5% - alder dwarf pine.

Those residents, who have not voted yet, are invited to make their choice and to define the plant, which will become region’s symbol. Vote for the plant, which would become the symbol of Kamchatka Krai is the part of "Russian Alley" campaign initiated by Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Russia. Eventually, each of the 83 subjects of Russian Federation will select in an open public vote a plant symbol, which later will be approved by legislative authorities as an official emblem of the region. Upon completion of the voting there will be organized planting of 83 plants, that have become symbols of Russian regions, in one of the most protected areas.
