Monument to the founders of Russian Railways has been unveiled by Kazansky railway station in Moscow.
The unveiling ceremony of the monument to the creators of Russian Railways was held at the Tsar Tower of Kazansky railway station in Moscow. The event was dedicated to the professional holiday – Railway Workers’ Day, which is traditionally celebrated on first Sunday of August. Location for the sculpture was not chosen by accident. Solemn burial of time capsule into the base of the monument was done on September 2, 2011. The sculptural composition is made of granite and bronze. Its’ author – People's Artist of Russia Salavat Shcherbakov. The Monument to the Founders of Russian Railways is a granite pedestal topped with the bust of Emperor Nikolai I, surrounded by bronze figures of eminent industry tycoons: Cherepanov father and son, Franz Anton von Gerstner, Pavel Melnikov, Mikhail Khilkov and Sergey Witte.
