A replica yacht of Peter the Great was launched on Solovetsky Islands.
"St. Peter" replica yacht that Peter the Great sailed on waters of White Sea in 1694 was launched on Solovetsky Islands. Tsar’s ship was built in Arkhangelsk by local shipbuilders led by Dutch naval architects in 1693. In 1694, the young king came to the "Saint Peter" in the Solovetsky monastery.
New "Saint Peter" looks nearly the same like its historical prototype, but it is a modern vessel built according to the latest shipbuilding technology and in addition to the sail is equipped with a powerful engine. The three-quarters small copy of the famous sovereign’s yacht of the end XVII century was being built for about 10 years at the shipyard of Solovetsky Maritime Museum. It is expected that soon the yacht will be equipped with a mast and sail, it will be rigged and interiors will be trimmed. Then the engine will be tested.
