Ancient Brick Furnace Found in Astrakhan Region

Archeologists have found a furnace for brick production of the Golden Horde era (14th century) in the Astrakhan Region.

      Archeologists carrying out excavations in Selitrenny archaeological site of the Astrakhan Region have found an intact furnace used by our ancestors for baking bricks.

      In the pit area the archeologists have found several coins thanks to which they ascertaind that the kiln was constructed in the mid 14th century, that is in the Golden Horde period. Researchers assure that the furnace is unique. It is the third find of the kind made in this area since the early 2000s. The well-preserved furnace is of big size. In ancient times, however, its dome of mudbrick collapsed.
