Monument to Dissident Poet Valentin Sokolov Unveiled in Rostov Region

A monument to the Soviet dissident poet Valentin Sokolov has been set up next to the Lost Miners memorial in the centre of Novoshakhtinsk of the Rostov Region

The monument to Valentin Sokolov is a one-and-a-half-meter granite stele, with a top secret document folder and the poet’s bronze bust over it. The monument was ready last year - for the 85th anniversary since the poet’s birth, but some reason local authorities did not want to set up the memorial in the city. Even after all official coordination in 2012 they tried to delay the installation date to the last.
