For the first time the Tretyakov Gallery presents an exhibition of Piet Mondrian (1872-1944) – an outstanding modernist artist of the 20th century.
Piet Mondrian is considered to be one of the founders of abstract art, as well as his contemporaries – Wassily Kandinsky and Kazimir Malevich, whose works make an important part of the main exposition in the Tretyakov Gallery at Krymsky Val.
About 40 works brought from the Hague Municipal Museum and making the exposition outline a trajectory of Piet Mondrian’s creativity development from the early works of the late 19th century to the late abstractions of the 1930s – the artist’s pathway which was a break-through change of the artistic vision of his contemporaries.
The exhibition runs till November 24.
